A significant overhaul of the current global food system is needed to meet the challenges of feeding a growing world population in a healthy, equitable, sustainable and resilient way.
The programme of the "Sustainable Food Insitute" links together research programmes on the food system between European and Ukrainian Universities and reserach centres. The research includes scientific, economic, social and environmental issues of food production and consumption, as well as how food affects health, sustainability and economic development.
By integrating existing research, supporting new interdisciplinary initiatives, and facilitating interactions between academia, government, civil society and the private sector, we will provide fresh insights and propose effective action to address the challenges of feeding the global population.
The Institute's programme will see researchers work together to bring the power of science and innovation to bear on work ranging from protecting precious supplies of clean water, to ensuring that we can feed a growing global population at the same time as reaching Net Zero goals. In the short-term, farmers will be able to harvest more, using inputs more efficiently. Over the long-run, the entire agricultural value chain will benefit from improved transparency and traceability. Our ambition is to protect and regenerate natural resources by going beyond our circular economy model. Furtermore we would like to investigate how AI is setting new standards for sustainable agriculture, with huge implications for the future of food production !!
